Beef Skewers with Spicy Sauce

Ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 lb (750) ground (minced) beef
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped mint
  • 1 tablespoon finely chopped parsley
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) extra-virgin olive oil
  • 1/2 small bell yellow pepper (capsicum)
  • 1 medium white onion
  • 1/4 cup (60 ml) water
  • 1/2 cup (125 ml) ketchup
  • 1 teaspoon Tabasco sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon vinegar

Procedure:
  1. Place the beef in a large bowl and stir in the mint and parsley. Season with salt and pepper
  2. Shape into balls about the size of a wallnut and flatten slightly
  3. Preheat the broiler (grill) on high setting
  4. Heat the oil in a medium frying pan over medium heat. Saute the onion and bell pepper until softened, about 5 minutes
  5. Add the water, ketchup, Tabasco, sugar, and vinegar. Season with salt and pepper
  6. Thread the beef balls onto wooden skewers- 2 or 3 per skewer- and cook under the broiler (or oer the glowing embers of a babeque) until golden brown and cooked thorugh, about 10 minutes
  7. Serve hot with the spicy sauce
